A Look Into Kuna, Idaho
Kuna sits on the southern edge of the Treasure Valley, and it has a way of making people feel like they found something a little bit special. The town has kept its small-town personality while still being close to everything the valley offers. From exit 44 in Meridian, it's about 8 miles south on Highway 69 to East Avalon Avenue in Kuna, so shopping, dining, and work in Meridian and Boise are an easy drive away. Head the other direction, though, and you'll quickly find yourself in open country, with a huge National Conservation Area protecting the rugged Snake River Canyon to the south. That mix of convenience and wide-open space is a big part of why so many people choose to call Kuna home.
If you love the outdoors, Kuna gives you plenty of reasons to get outside. One of the favorite summer traditions is floating Indian Creek right in town, and while some stretches are relaxing, there are also rapids that will get your heart pumping. A short drive south takes you to Swan Falls on the Snake River, built in 1901 to power nearby mines and known as the oldest hydroelectric site on the river. The area draws people for fishing, rafting, boating, mountain biking, hunting, camping, and picnicking. Bird lovers are in for a treat too, since more than 700 pairs of raptors nest each spring along 81 miles of the Snake River Canyon, and March through late June is the best time to see them soaring overhead.
Kuna also has a lot to enjoy closer to home. You can stop by Indian Creek Winery for a tasting or play a round at Falcon Crest Golf Club, and local parks give you room to relax on a sunny afternoon. The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey is about ten miles east, where you can see California condors, peregrine falcons, and harpy eagles up close in large aviaries. For a weekend drive, the Western Heritage Historic Byway offers sweeping views of the Owyhee Mountains along with sagebrush country and the canyon rims of the Snake River. Whether you're looking for adventure, a slower pace, or a bit of both, Kuna makes it easy to feel right at home.
